Can´t apply patches to BE10

Bernhard_Erren

Hello,

i tried applying patches to my BE10, but i can´t. For example applying SP1 returns following error:

Fehler des Installationsassistenten
Der Assistent wurde unterbrochen bevor VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows Server vollständig installiert werden konnte.

(Sorry, german version...)

No BKUPINST.LOG was created nowhere. I checked serials, vxvalidate, reinstalling it, repairing it, etc.
It still returns the same error.

What can i do?

Hello,

You can refer the following technote:-

The error message "The wizard was interrupted..." is displayed when installing Backup Exec 10.0
http://support.veritas.com/docs/276559

BKUPINST.log is laocated at c:\WinNT so check the exact error message.

Hello,

Please check once again for the Bkupinst.log file.

Also you can perform a silent installation. Please refer to the technote below.

(title) How to install a Backup Exec Hotfix or Service Pack without user intervention. (Silent Installation)

http://support.veritas.com/docs/274398

Thanks,

Hello,

sorry, it still doesnt work. bkupinst.log isnt created (i searched the whole drives).
Eventlog first reports an ID 1023. The errorcode is 1603. It also says, there must be a log-file created, but there isnt.

Hello,

Please try doing the foll steps:

1. Extract the HF package using winzip to C:\

2. Run the command from the C: drive

msiexec /p bepatch.msp /qb! /l*v c:\BE_HF.log

3.This will create a log file c:\BE_HF.log

After the installation of the hotfix try rebooting the server.
If the problem persists please check this log file for the exact error for further troubleshooting of this issue.

Thanks,

Had this once ----

try to uninstall BEWS including a manual registry clean
to guarantee the registry is clean (BEWS keys)

cleanup the c:\WINNT\Installer\ directory for all BEWS entries. (quite some work, depending on the server)

Reboot the machine.

Reinstall a clean BEWS 10. Try to patch.

But anyway: There is BEWS 10.0 Build 5520 out and running. You should install the actual buil which includes all SP1 and service packs that are available for build 5484.

You may want to take the first steps listed above before, to insure you may be able to patch the build 5520 later, once there are HF available for this build.

Hello,

5484 can´t be service packed or patched, on none of the 10 or more installations i made the last weeks.

I just made a clean install of 5520. Hope, this one will work...

Many thanks
