Catalog TAPE constantly running, using symantec backup exec 2010, DELL TL2000

Hi,

I inserted an LTO 4 tape into the TL2000 library taken from a different tape library  Dell ML6000.

I am trying to catalogue the content of the tape drive and it does not give me percent complete status.

It keeps on running and it has been 2 hours already. The Tape drive is in use.

I have covered the barcode on the tapes as i am not using the barcode with my Tape library.

I get error while initialiazing the tapes 'unknown media' but i can see the label of the tape in my slot list.

I have disabled read/write on all other LTO types except LTO4 .

Kindly suggest me on how to recover my Tape Data.

Thank you

When you mounted that tape, did you inventory it before you started your catalog job?

The Inventory is what gave the the error ' Unknown media' after which i tried Catalog.

The Initialize went fine !

Hmm

What kind of tape is it?  what kind of drive?

If the inventory fails, every other operation against that tape will probabaly fail also

The Tape is LTO4..drive is LTO 64K IBM.

Newer tapes cannot be used in older drives. (Not even for reading)

If I am not mistaken the tape drive is a LTO3 tape drive.  If I am correct, then your problem is that LTO3 tape drive cannot read LTO4 tapes.

Please i am not sure if the Tape Drive is LTO3 or not. I do not see it in the Drive Properties.

How to find out ?

You can check about the drive model in Web console of the tape library.
