Hi,

GRT backups to tape work well, but when restoring it stages to disk first (default location = C:\Temp). You'd need the same amount of free space available to do this staging as your Information Store is big.

Scheduling the job...that depends on you. You'd schedule it during some quiet time which is normall at night, and during a time when no Exchange maintenance tasks are running.

Check the link below for the Exchange agent best practices, as well as my article on how to duplicate an Exchange restore to disk before restoring (saves time if the restore tanks for whatever reason!).

In Backup Exec console go to Job Setup and create a Policy with 2 Templates. First template will be a Full backup template and the destination device in this will be the Backup To Disk. Schedule this 1st template as per your requirement.

Then create a 2nd Template which will be a Duplicate template. Select the source as the first template and the detination device as the Tape drive. You can either schedule this duplicate template or as per the rule set it to run immediately after the Backup to Disk job is completed.

Create a selection list selecting your Exchange Information Store and then associate this selection list with the Policy that you created above.

Rest do keep check on  the information provided above by Craig which is very important for restore.

Thanks,
