D2D2T restores

We are looking to implement a new backup solution for a customer, probably using a disk and tape based solution.

My first question is - does Backup Exec V10 have built in support for D2D2T backups or would other option(s) be required ?

Secondly - what format does the backup to disk take ? i.e. is it one large file (as it would be with a normal backup to disk) which is then backed up to tape ? How is it then possible to restore a single file directly from tape if required ?

Regards

John

Hi John,

If you backup to the Backup-to disk folder then the data gets backed up in .bkf format on the hard disk in a folder.

If you backup to tape then data is backed up in .mtf format.

So if you are planning to backup the data backed up to the hard disk to a tape then only the .bkf files will get backed up to tape and not the actual data. You would face problems while restoring this backed up data as you first have to restore the .bkf files and then restore the actual data again. This would be pretty time consuming.
