DAT72 4mm gets full

Hi everyone,

I use Dell DAT72 4mm tapes with Backup Exec 10d on WIN2K server. It is able to store around 50GB. If there are more data to be written, the job stops and waits for another media. We have a 2 week backup strategy and total 10 tapes. The data is going to grow with time. So what are my options? Should I buy tapes with higher capacity? Is there another compression technic?

Please help me out.

DAT72 is 36GN uncompressed and 72 GB at 2:1 compression, a figure you will rarely see in the real world.  Most people get around 1.2-1.3:1

If you have a library/loader, you can get more tapes and just let the job continue on a second tape.

If you ahve a stand-alone drive there isn't musch you can do.  Yuo can split your backup ino ttwo jobs and run then on alternate nights, but that usually is not a satisfactory solution.

You may need to look into a larger capacity solution  Smiley Sad
