Daily BTD suddenly claims out of space

We run daily backup to disks using an external array. Yesterday, jobs started failing claiming there is insufficient room on the target drive.

The backups typically take ~65GB. There is currently over 100GB space available. The BTD devices have the "reserve space" value set to 5GB.
We have not made any system changes in the last three weeks and the jobs have ran successfully many times since that last change.

I went thru several interations fo recreatin the BTD folder, restarting BE services, and modifying the BTD device defaults. It's working again. The last change I made was to change the max size to more than the expected total for a job and limiting it to one data set per job.
