Daily backup is taking longer to complete than usual

Hi,

I'm running Backup Exec version 9.0 Rev. 4454 on Windows 2003 server. Just earlier this week the daily backup is starting to take longer to finish. It usually takes 5 to 6 hours to complete. Now it takes about 13 hours to complete. I haven't changed any settings and the size that it is backing up is about the same amount as before. Does any one know what could be the cause?

Any help will greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi,

Can somebody please help. I just ran a weekly backup job over the weekend. Its been running for 38 hours and still going. The average time it usually takes for a weekly backup is 23 hours. I found that the throughput rate on some of the directories it was backing up was about less than half the rate that it should be. Does anybody know what I can do to make the backup job finish faster?

ANY HELP WILL GREATLY BE APPRECIATED!

Thanks,
Rolen

Hello,

- Is it a remote backup or a local Backup?

- Are you backing up on Tape?

- Are you backing up any databases like exchange and sql?

- Please make sure that you have stopped antivirus services and other
thirdparty services.

Ensure that all the hardware devices are working properly. The firmware
on the device is updated to the latest.

Test a backup job when the network activity is minimal and observe the
results

The backup performance depends on the following factors such as

A. Tape Drive used for backup (Tape drive or Autoloaders) and the media.

B. Hardware or software compression used.

C. The device drivers, firmware for the backup device. Update the firmware.

D. Local or remote network backup.

E. Antivirus option selected.

F. Job Scan Option selected during backup.

G. Please check Virtual memory settings.

Try a test backup using NT backup utility.
