Diffs Backing up untouched folders.

Is there a way to run differential backups and not backup folders which contain files that may not have been touched? In looking at my daily differentials I always see the same folder structure, however, most folders are empty unless they contain a file that was modified that day. I would like to not backup these untouched file folders if possible.

Thanks,

Mark

Hello,

You can use the incremental backup method. However when it comes to restoring, you will need to restore every incremental backup set.

For more information on how incremental and differential backups work, refer to the following technote:

Title: What are the differences between Differential and Incremental backups ?
http://support.veritas.com/docs/230247

If all the files are being backed up in either of the two methods, it could be that some other application is changing the archive bit of the files in question. Refer to the following technote:

When running a Differential or Incremental backup job, all files are backed up as if a Full Backup was run.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/190786

Hope that helps. If the issue persists, revert with details.
