I need to perform a DR test to another server (similar H/W) with a different hostname and IP (while the live server is still running). I want to do this using IDR to simulate how we would perform a live disaster recovery.
Is this possible? Has anyone done this before? My guess is no as the whole point of IDR is to restore a server to the same point in event of disaster (with the same settings).
If IDR is not possible how have others approached this in the past - build OS, install agent and give server IP, then restore data and system state? Only problem I can see with this is that restoring the registry would contain entries to the hostname???
Ideally, I'd like to take the live server down and give our DR test server the same IP to eliminate all the above - but this is not possible!
