Dont work Verify job on Dedup folder

Hello!

First of all i`m sorry for my poor English.

We have problem when do backup job on deduplication folder.

BE Server configuration - 6 GB RAM, Dedup folder - 3,25 TB, Processor Xenon 2,2 GHz, BackUP Exec 2010 R2 SP 1 and all updates;

When Verify job start first few minutes (1 - 5 minutes or more) all works fine (Byte count increase, Job rate 500 - 800 MB). Then i`m dont know why but Byte count dont increase, they stopped on some count and dont increase, Job rate go down to 1 - 2 MB/min, But at the same time Job status - Running. I`m wait about 6 hours but nothing change Job status - Running.

Then i`m try Cancel this job , but i`m  cant do it Job status change to Cancel Pending and in this state i`m wait about 2 hours, but nothing change. So that i`m restart BE Service.

No Alerts, no errors or some else.

I`m start Backup Job on Dedup without Verify and all work fine.

I`m check Defragmentation on Dedup Folder and System Drive (C:\) :

Dedup -  5 %;

C:\  - 16 %

Whats going ? and why ? :)

During verify BE checks for integrity of data that just been backedup to either tape or disk.

As your dedup jobs without verify option checked are completing successfully, have you tried running verify job seperately on those backups?

Are you seing any errors in your Application Eventlog? This could point to a corrupt Deduplication Folder.

What kind of data is being verified? Is it a normal VM Backup with files only, or is it also application GRT (Exchange, SQL or AD)?

we also try Verify job seperately and they didn`t work.

In Appication Eventlog i`m didnt see anything about error in BackUP Exec or Dedup Folder.

We try verify a normal file and GRT (Exchange) all of this didnt work :(

If you target your job to a B2D folder, does your verify work?

Yes , We backup Exchange 2010 to B2D  with GRT options. Verify - work.

May be it is help. In the Verify Job History (which i cancel and then restart BE service) i`m found Error:

e0008821, V-79-57344-34849.

Also i`m forgot say that we use Windows 2008 r2 server standart

Symantec will disagree but verifies are not necessary on dedupe jobs. In fact in R3 it does not complain when you set up a job and unselect the verify option.  It is not like tape where you could have dropouts on the media itself. If you really think you need verifies do it as a seperate job.

Did I get that you have only 6 gigs of memory in the server? I have a 4 TB dedupe folder and I have 24 gigs of ram . They have a formula but can't recall offhand but I would put more ram in.

Yes we have only 6 gigs of memory on 3.25 TB dedup folder. I`m also think may be in this problem ? Because in Admin Guied say (about dedup folder) that need 8 Gigs RAM on 5 TB and if we want more dedup size we must use formula 1 TB dedup on 1,5 GB RAM. Does it means that minimum is 8 gigs of RAM.

1.5GB of RAM per TB of data stored within the dedupe folder.  This is the compressed data size, not the original size.

Yes I agree, you shouldn't verify your dedupe folder.  It's a cover their butts thing, not a requirement.

ok, then  problem not in memory count. So why Verify job no work on dedup folder ? especially last week it`s work fine.

Error 10016 In  Windows System log i`m solve, but i`m still have problem with  Verify job on deduplication folder BE 2010 R2. Doesn`t metter when i`m run verify job separately or not , it`s dont work.

I`m dont know why but now problem is gone. All work fine. All verify jobs complete successfuly. It`s miracle ?
