Email notifications no longer working

Hi there,

The email notifications are no longer working on our BE 9.0 Build 4454 on Windows 2000 server.

They do not even work in the Configure recipients -> Test area of Veritas.
Nothing changed, one minute all ok, next they don't work. We have a second BE 9.0 server and the alerts are all working ok and its settings are exactly the same.

I have tried adding different recipients but they don't work either - server been restarted etc as well.

Any ideas why this should happen and how i can get it working again...thanks

kind regards
Adrian

Let me know the settings you are using: delivery method (smtp, netsend, mapi, etc) recipient type, per job notifications or global alert notifications? etc.

From there we can probably come up with a few items to check.

Another thing, aside from notifications, are all jobs and other functions still working properly?

Hi,
Delivery is SMTP - mail server, port 25 etc
Recipient is only SMTP enabled as well.
These are then used on a per job basis.

Like i say, this is not working when i try a 'Test' on the recipient as well.
Settings are the same on our other Veritas server which is working ok.

Backup/restore jobs are still working ok, just not notifying at the end.

Any ideas, cheers

I would first verify that there is no anti-virus or firewall blocking the port 25 used for smtp messaging.

Since you say everything else matches the other server, are these machines in different domains, different dns, etc? You may have a forwarding issue so you could try the steps in this document:

Hi,

This could happen if the email configuration has not been set properly. Please refer to the following technote on how configure email notification:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/253178.htm

This could also happen if the email address given does not reside on the SMTP server that is specified in the Backup Exec notification setup, then the SMTP server must allow relaying from the Backup Exec server. Please refer to the following technote on the same:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264683.htm

For additional information please refer to the following technote:

- Troubleshooting Simple Mail Transfer Protocol notification with Microsoft Network Monitor in Windows 2000
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/250522.htm

We hope this helps.
