Error V-79-57344-33991 happens repeatedly.

A number of data tapes at irregular but frequent times produce the following error during the VERIFY stage. I clean the DDS-3 drive (HP #C1537A) after every use with HP #C5709A cleaning cartridge, but I'm wondering if you have any other advice. I use only geniune HP tapes (HP #C5708A).

Verify- C: Storage device "HP 1" reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported:
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
This could be caused by either a dirty tape drive, bad media, or a SCSI problem.
V-79-57344-33991 - The media is bad.
