Errors --CRC--Library Busy--Can't Recognize Media

I am running Windows Server 2000 Service Pack 4.0 with Veritas 9.1 service pack 2.

I have followed all the online info and checked for CRC causes. The SCSI card is on 7 the back up system-- HP SSL1016 Robotic Tape Drive --is on 5.

When I try to back-up from a networked computer, erase, or rename I get CRC errors.

When I try to clean I get a --DEVICE IS BUSY --error

And the media under devices always shows as -- UNKNOWN MEDIA --but in the MEDIA section there are names for all the tapes in the drive.

I inherited this system . I was told a full backup was done 1 month ago, but the erase and rename functions have never worked. The drives are in a media group not in the SCRATCH group.

Any ideas where to start? All drivers for all the hardware are uptodate, but I did use the standard drivers recommended by the installer. Also the SCSI Card has a max dat output of 160mbs --- I did change that to 16, but had no luck so I moved it back to 160.

Hi,

Please check if the device you are using is compatible with your backup Exec version.

If it is compatible with Backup exec for Windows server, please download latest Veritas drivers for Backup Exec v9.1:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/273853.htm

If the driver is not compatible with c Backup exec for Windows server please download the OEM drivers (original equipment manufacturer).

How to use original equipment manufacturer drivers with VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers 9.x http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/253974.htm

Try backup on a fresh media.

Clean the tape drive.

The cyclic redundancy check (CRC) error is generic in nature and can be caused by numerous factors.
Refer to the following technote to resolve the issue:
