Exchange 2003 Mailbox Rate Decreases over time.

When I first run my Exchange backup, the job rate is close to a 700mb/min. This around the snapshot and info store. Then it hits the mailbox stores at about 500 mb/min. By the time is has hits about 20% of the boxes its down to 80mb/min then eventually down to 5mb/min at completion. All of this is over the course of 7hrs and 3-4gbs.

When I use to backup just the mailbox store (full backup) I would get a consist 50mb or so and 8gb in 2.5 hours.

Why is does the job rate slow down to a crawl? Is there away to make it consistent? Does running another backup on another server sharing the same B2D drive cause the jobs to slow down?

Hello,

Refer following technotes.

Title:
Slow throughput while backing up Microsoft Exchange mailboxes

Title:
Slow backup performance occurs when backing up Microsoft Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 servers between 1:00 am and 5:00 am.

- If you are using the same B2D for two different backups this may affect the performance.
