Exchange 2003 Public Folder Redirection

Donny_Parrott

Scenario:

We had some information disappear from an Exchange Public folder. This missing information was unnoticed for some time. Due to extenuating circumstances, we were unable to use recent backups to perform the restore.

We found an old Tape which did contain the information needed. The tape was inventoried, cataloged and verified good.

The data on the tape is from our old Exchange server which was decommissioned some time ago. We will call it server1. Server2 is our current Exchange server.

We believed we could simply redirect the restore, but have been unable to due so. We receive the following errors:

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xa0008488 - Access is denied.
Final error category: Security Errors

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xa000848c - Unable to attach to one of the drives.
Final error category: Resource Errors

These errors seem to have no correlation to the way the job is setup. We will even get one of each if the same job is run twice.

Now, we are using a brick level backup for the restore. We drill down into Exchange -> Public Folders -> Folder1 -> Folder2. We select Folder2 as the folder to be backed up, along with all its contents.

We then goto the Resource Credentials tab and see that the Resource is pointing to Server1. If we test the connection, it fails due to Server1 no longer being in existance.

So we move on to "Microsoft Exchange Redirection". We check the box to Redirect Exchange sets and set the server to "\\server2". Restore to Mailbox is left blank.

We go to General and set the following: Restore over existing files and Preserve tree. All others are left blank or removed.

On Settings -> Microsoft Exchange the following is set:
No loss restore - checked.
Temp Location - c:\temp.
Dismount before restore - checked.
Commit after restore - checked.
Mount after restore - checked.

We are unable to restore these needed files. If there are any other ideas please direct. We have considered using the information store itself, but have not found the document to guide us with this.

Been there, done that ...

None of those suggestions apply.
I read in another thread something about thte inability of BackupExec to redirect the Public Folder stores. Is this true?
