Exchange mailbox restore

I have my domain controller (windows 2000) which also haws the backup software and tape drives. I am trying to restore a deleted mailbox for a former employee whos mail needs to be checked. When I attempt to restore her mailbox I get the error "UNABLE TO ATTACH TO //server name/MICROSOFT EXCHANGE MAILBOXES. THE DEVICE CANNOT BE FOUND". Yet I can backup mailboxes and the information store. IIS is started and I have the remote agent installed correctly.

I have tried restoring to another mailbox and I even created and new empty mailbox for restores. Still no luck.

Any help would get me out of this jam.

Are you trying this while logged in as the BEWS service account or as you?
Have you tried scheduling the job rather than running it interactively?
