I have my domain controller (windows 2000) which also haws the backup software and tape drives. I am trying to restore a deleted mailbox for a former employee whos mail needs to be checked. When I attempt to restore her mailbox I get the error "UNABLE TO ATTACH TO //server name/MICROSOFT EXCHANGE MAILBOXES. THE DEVICE CANNOT BE FOUND". Yet I can backup mailboxes and the information store. IIS is started and I have the remote agent installed correctly.
I have tried restoring to another mailbox and I even created and new empty mailbox for restores. Still no luck.
Any help would get me out of this jam.
