Extreme Slowdowns on a fresh install

Hbeh
Not applicable

Hello,
I have a new server (2.83Ghz Xeon Quad-Core, 4GB RAM, 2x146GB Seagate Cheetah SAS Raid-1) with Windows SBS 2008.
The system runs fine until I install Backup Exec 12.5 (SBS license). After I created a backup job the whole system becomes extremely slow.
It does not react to pings anymore and it is impossible to do anything else because the server does not respond to any click/keystroke in less than 2-3 minutes.
The job has never been run yet. A new instance of SQL Express 2005 was used. The only other software on the system is APC PowerChute, besides the default SBS 2008 configuration and the latest updates from Microsoft and Symantec.

What could cause these extreme slowdowns (the system nearly comes to a halt)?

HI

You can check in the event logs for possible error in event logs . Also check if there is any antivirus like symantec endpoint protection that might effect the performance .

You can try stopping the BE services and see if you continue to have the issue

thanks
