I have a 2003 Exchange server that the backup exec service beserver.exe keeps failing. The error in the application event viewer is Event ID: 1000 "Faulting application beserver.exe, version 9.1.4691.0, faulting module beserver.exe, version 9.1.4691.0, fault address 0x0002eca9". I cannot find any tech articles on the problem in the Veritas or Microsoft Knowledge Bases

Hi,

Try performing the following steps :

1. In Backup Exec go to Tools> Options> Preferences and see if "Display Progress Indicators" is checked. If so uncheck the check box for "Display Progress Indicators" and click on the "OK" button to apply the change

2. Try renaming the "Catalogs" folder.

Stop all Backup Exec services
Go to Root Drive:\\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT
Rename the "Catalogs" folder to "Catalogs_OLD"
Start all of the backup Exec Services

3. If the above steps do not help download an run Microsoft Component Checker and verify there are no miss matched DLL's for MDAC.

Let us know if the above steps helped you in resolving the issue.

Thanks.

In my case this error vanished as I removed the "progress idication"
