I would to have two tapes backups running at the same time, this will cut the backup time in half. Can this device do this?
Symantec Backup exec 2010 r3

Yes it looks like it. See here: http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02511912/c02511912.pdf
and since there are other things that can affect job performance such as the network and hardware connection review this link for Improving and troubleshooting Backup Exec performance

HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 autoloader
I think this is a robotic library with 1 drive and 8 storage slots. Therefore, it could only run 1 job at a time.

Please keep in mind c097512
In order to run that second drive without causing issue you would need to purchase and install a LEO license.. Please see below

Hi,
There is no mention that the 1/8 G2 autoloader takes 2 drives...the MSL2024 G3, yes. But this is a 1U unit (worked with plenty of them), and the place where the drive is installed along with the 2 x 4 tape cartridges means there is not a space for an additional drive. As such, you won't be able to install a second drive.
You would need a second 1/8 G2 autoloader, or look at buying the MSL2024 G3 with 2 drives (very specific on which drives you can do this with!).
Thanks!

This is not true. There may be contention for other resources which will slow down the jobs. In the extreme case, running two jobs simultaneously may result in more time than running the jobs consecutively.
