Installed a Hewlett Packard Ultrium 232 autoloader and BE will not recognize the autoloader. Installed the latest device drivers from veritas still won't recognize. Any help would be appreciated?

I went through the article and I had included an excerpt from the adamm.log and the SCSIchanger registry entry. After going through this article I am still having a problem recognizing the autoloader. The article indicates a possible bad firmware although, these are brand new tape drives and I upgraded the firmware on one of these units and it is still having the same problem.

Hello,

Please check, whether the device that you are using is there in our Hardware Compatibility List.

Kindly refer the following document for the same:

Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers (tm) 9.x (9.0, 9.1) Hardware Compatibility List. Includes HCL information for supported drives, libraries, virtual tape devices, fibre-channel HBAs, switches, routers/bridges, and iSCSI components. For printing purposes, the latest version of Acrobat is recommended.

http://support.veritas.com/docs/282347

If the Device is tested,in the Hardware Compatibility List then install the Veritas Drivers.

Hello together,

i have the same problem with my new HP Ultrium 448 Autoloader (Model AE309A). The new autoloader is attached on a separate 2-channel SCSI-Controller (Serverhardware: HP DL380 G3). On Channel 1 is attached a HP VS-80 Autoloader and this one works fine (SCSI-Adress 5 , LUN 0+1). At Startup the BIOS of the SCSI Controller prompts the correct Adress of the Ultrium Autoloader (SCSI-Adress 5 , LUN 0+1), this is not the problem.
Finally i found, that the VSD-Table has no entry for the Primary Inquiry "HP ULTRIUM 2-SCSI S54W" and "HP 1x8 autoloader 1.50" (prompted in ADAMM.LOG). The newest driver package is installed (Version 45 for 9.1 Rev. 4691). The only solution may be a new driver package, that includes the Inquiry-Keys for the new Loader-Hardware.

The Backup Exec HCL lists a LTO2-Library from HP as "HP^^^^^^Thinstor^AutoLdr", but this entry is not in the actual VSD-Table and this is not the correct Inquiry Key for the HP Ultrium 448 Autoloader.

Regards and thanks for help

Forgive a silly question, but

You did specify AutoLoader support when installing BackupExec, right? One Loader with one drive is supported with no extra serial, but must be specified as an install option.

Dan_Marasco
Level 3
Yes, we had an autoloader device that died so, we bought the ultrium autoloaders to replace the older autoloader.

Dan_Marasco
Level 3
I show an Ultrium 230 and an Ultrium 448 in the hardware campatability list although, the inquiry strings do not seem to match.

James_Molnar
Not applicable
start wiwth the basics.

does the scsi controller list the drive and the robot when it boots.
no fix the scsi controller and bios settings
yes
then see if the devce is listing bothe a robot and a drive...use latest drivers

the os must see the drive before the be will work correctly. unless the latest be drivers is avaiable for that device...

Dan_Marasco
Level 3
Yes, the SCSI controller does recognize the device during POST and the OS does recognize the Autoloader and the Drive. BE see's the drive but not the Autoloader.

Ken_Putnam

Does the old loader still exist on the Devices Tab?\

if so, rerun TAPEINST and tell it to remove all devices that are not found. Backup Exec v9 will only support one autoloader AFAIK.

The old autoloader does not exist as adevice and I did run the tapeinst selecting to remove any device no longer used.

I tried the evaluation version of 10d(.1) and it recognized the autoloader just fine. With 9.1 I received:

We purchased 7 of these drives and have seven copies BE 9.1 It is not within our budget to purchase version 10 at this time therefore, any help you could provide would be much appreciated.

Hello,

You may refer to the following technote

(title)Event ID 58053: A "Storage Device Configuration Error" is reported after attempting any tape device operation

Thanks.

Again, we went through the installation of the Veritas device drivers package for 9.1 and it does not see the autoloader. Is there a posibility that the HP ultrium autoloaders can be included in the driver package for 9.1

priya_khire

Hello Dan,

You had earlier mentioned that the device string does not match the one in the HCL. You could uninstall completely the Veritas drivers from tapeinst and then install the manufacturer drivers and se eif it works. Refer to the doc below:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/253974

Note : If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked οΏ½assumed answeredοΏ½ and would be moved to οΏ½answered questionsοΏ½ pool.

We had the same problems before the update from 9.1 to 10.1d (i posted it earlier). After the upgrade i need 5 minutes to start with the new autoloader (HP Ultrium 448 1x8 autoloader). Solely only a new driver package will be the solution. Where is the problem for VERITAS to include this new hardware into a driver package for BE Version 9.1? No other method will bring a satisfactory result.

kind regards

Hi Eduard,

Have you installed the latest drivers or not?

If not then install them using this link:
