"Directory not found. "

A backup operation fails with the error message: "Directory not found. Can not back up directory <\directory> and its subdirectories" or "The directory is invalid."

This occurs on deleted mailboxes.

Running Exchange 2003 on Server 2003 with sp1
Veritas 10d sp1

Document says to Exclude the offending directories. Can't do that as Mailboxes will not be backed up.

If I go into selections of the backup and deselect the mailboxes root level, then select mailboxes root level and save the backup then the "Directory is invalid" error goes away. Surely this should be automatic whenever a user leaves the company and is deleted, including their mailboxes I should not have to go through this procedure every time???

Thanks

Steve

This error usually occurs with mailboxes that have been marked for deletion but not purged yet, mailboxes that are hidden, or mailboxes that are disabled. Since in all three cases these mailboxes will still show up in the AD global address list, Backup Exec will still try to back them up. As long as make the selection at the root mailboxes, you can uncheck individual mailboxes from selections.
