Help! Backup Failing with this Error....OFO: Initialization failure on:...

"Shadow?Copy?Components". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
OFO: Snapshot error (0xfffffed1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status.

I have tried to reboot the server and that did not resolved the issue. Any one seen this or have ideas? It is for Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 running on Windows Server 2003 for Small Business.

Thanks,
Wes Farmer

I had problems with OFO and Shadow copy. OFO is unnecessarry and doesn't work quite right espically with exchange, and I haven't backed up shado copy components, and I've been able to restore my exchange to a test server after a full backup, so I unchecked that as well. Good Luck

Hi,

Check the the status of the involved VSS Application Writer used during the backup job. Refer the following document to perform the same:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/261993.htm

Apply the Hotfix mentioned in the following document:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;826936

Also note that AOFO is not required to perform a backup of Databases like Exchange and SQL.
The best and recommended method is to use the Backup Exec Exchange agent for backing up Exchange databases.
