Help with setting up Multiple Workstation backups

Clair_Backhouse
Not applicable
We are running BackupExec 10d on a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server.

We have about 40 Mac workstations that need their data backed up to a Backup-to-disk folder. Is it best to create 1 backup job, 1 Backup-to-disk device and 1 media set or seperate ones.

We have tried setting up 1 jobs, 1 Backup-to-disk device and 1 media set but found problems with the job continually failing as not all workstations are switched on everyday.

We then tried creating a backup job per workstation but using only 1 Backup-to-disk device and 1 media set. All jobs were origianally set to do a Full Backup-copy files and we then changed this to an incremental backup using modified time. When looking at the restore selections some workstations were not appearing at all even though the backup was selected, some were not showing the most recent backup but most were showing the most recent incremental backup but nothing else so the only data there were the few modified files. Were are all the files from the Full backup?

Any advice as to the best way to set this up would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

Ensure that you have installed the MAC agent on all the workstations as per : http://support.veritas.com/docs/271591

You can create different backup jobs. Since there are 40 workstations, you can divide them into 4 to 8 jobs, thus having 5 to 10 servers in each job. You can schedule a full backup once a week and the remaining days can be kept for incremental backups.

In case you encounter any problems as per the above set up, reveret with details on the files that do not appear, the type of job run etc..

Note : If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked assumed answered and would be moved to answered questions pool.

Regards.
