Hello all, I am fairly new to Backup Exec. In my company we are using Backup Exec 10d. Our tape drive died and because the new one is of newer firmware, we were unable to use the original Quantum Drivers so we installed the Veritas drivers to use. Now Symantec is running the tape drive. Symantec is randomly selecting media. I know that it looks at the oldest tapes in the Media Set, but is there any way to get the program to select tapes based upon Appended Date.
We currently have a Quantum Superloader 3. Now that we made the switch on the drivers, we have to learn more about Symantec. I appreciate anyone's help.
Thanks

I find it hard to believe that changing out a drive or loading new drivers would affect how ADAMM selects tapes for use (Advanced Device and Media Management, the Veritas and now Symantec philosophy)
ADAMM is explained in this Tech Note and in the Admin Guide

Why do you want to do this? If you do manage to find such tapes, do you want to overwrite or append to them.

I'd suggest reading the Managing Media (or Media Management) section in the admin guide as well - as there is a table in there that describes the media management settings and how that affects the tape selection order.

http://www.backupexecfaq.com/articles/concepts/how-be-selects-media.html should help you. Plus the Administrator's Guide of course.
