Hyper-V Cluster Backup Error

Hi there,

I'm having an error situation during the backup execution on a Hyper-V Cluster with Backup Exec 2010 R3

Some VMs from this cluster are finishing correctly the backup job, but other are finishing with this error.

The environment is:

Cluster Hosts: 2x R610 (Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bits / 64Gb RAM)
Storage: 1x Equalogic PS4000

Media Server: 1x R610 (Windows 2008 Enterprise 64bits / 8Gb RAM)
Tape Library: 1x Dell PowerVault TL2000 (1,5Tb LTO)

In the same environment, I have another host (out of the cluster) that use the same storage and all Hyper-V backup jobs are running OK.

Follow some information about the jobs

Any ideia about this situation?

Thanks in advance.

You have 2 host in this Cluster

this issue could be because of  Hyper V writer \\VSS  failling on a specific host

Check Win event viewer on host where VM would be running.

You can also move a specific VM to another host and try backup again to isolate

Reboot the Host server which is holding  the target VM,

does other VM's on same host fails with above error or is this the only one?

If this is the only one..try rebooting only the VM.

Striker,

For all VMs from this Cluster, just 2 VMs finish the backup job, the others VMs fail with this same error.

Hey Striker,

I've migrate one VM to the "ok" host and all backup jobs had finished correctly.

I don't know exactly what was the problem because both hosts have the same hardware configuration and all resources are balanced.

Now I'll return the VM to the "bad" host and monitoring the backup process.

Maybe all gonna be ok from this time.

Thanks!

Lucas this seems to be issue with VSS or hyper V writer on failling host.

Try to reboot that host and see if problem goes away or else you would have to look more
for that ..like re-rejistering VSS on the host etc ( http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH70486 )
