But I have a problem with the LTO 4 tape driver. ( it an IBM Ultrium LTO4 inside a Dell Powervault 114x rack).

BE2010 See the tape driver but when I launch for example an inventory, nothing happen. It try to search the LTO.

I use the Microsoft default drivers. ( Symantec drivers are installed too).

Thank you

Hello there,

try to perform a powercycle in following order:

-Shut down the server

-Shut down the Library

-Turn ON the library and wait for few minutes till it completely initializes

-Then turn ON the server

Now check if the Utility jobs are running or not. I advice these steps as it seems that the drivers are not initialised properly.

Thanks,

Hi,

If this is a library, make sure the Robotics shows up as Unknown Medium Changer under Device Manager in Windows.

Then install the Symantec drivers and try again.

Thanks!

Hi,

First you chech that Tape drive is detected successfully on windows server 2008,

Go to the device manager, and check it.

If there tape drive is detected successfully, then you can perform the Inventory using windows. It's successfully completed, then we will check it up...

Try the above steps and Post your reply...

The Tape is detected successfully on windows server 2008.

I 've installed Symantec Drivers but I must Reboot the server. I will do this tomorrow. Maybe it needs to inialize the LTO on the boot sequence.

On the Old 2003 Servers x86 I remerber I installed the DELL PV 114x LTO4 IBM drivers but I don't find  the good drivers for 2008 Server x64 on the dell website. So i will try with the Symantec Drivers.

Thank you.

It is receommened that you install Symantec drivers only as they are compatible with your hardware as well as Backup Exec software.

Thanks,

Hi,

I reboot the server - reboot the powervault - symantec Drivers didn't work ( error to initialize the LTO Tape)  so I use the default windows drivers and it works.

Thank you.

2 things:

1. Don't use the MS drivers...try the Dell drivers for your tape drive

2. What is the error message you're receiving in its entirety?

THanks!

Why do I cant' use the MS Drivers?

1 - I dont find the DELL Drivers for Windows 2008Server x64. Exist only for 2003 x86 x64 bits.

2 - With symantec drivers there is a yellow exclamation point and error code 37 in the windows device manager ( can't initialize the device drivers for with hardware)

...and your backups work like this? If so, leave it as is then...

Lastly...is it connected to a supported SCSI card (NOT RAID)?

yes My Backups work well  for the moment ..

It is connected to a DELL SAS Card Controller.

OK...if things work with those drivers, continue to use them, but also make sure that your hardware complies with the BE 2012 HCL:
