IDR - Is it worth it?

My client is running a SBS2003. I'm getting a nasty error creating the bootable IDR CD image for it. Then I find some postings on this forum that say IDR won't save any time over doing a fresh install of the OS from the Dell CDs. I thought the IDR CD would put me in a memory-resident version of Windows with BE on it so I can do a restore and save me lots of time. Am I wrong?

All the IDR CD does is get you the OS  on the machine when you created the CD, you still need the last tape or B2D folder to get to your last backup

(And it does it all behind a Wizard, which is what I hate most about it  Smiley Wink )

See the admin guide page 1519 for the steps involved in an IDR recovery

I don't use IDR. You can do a disaster recovery without it, it just makes the process quicker. The question is whether the time saved in a disaster recovery scenario is worth the extra cost, both financially and in time.
