HI,

How do you you get the backup file off a tape. I dont mean restore the file to the server.

Its so that a third party tool can look at the backup exec file itself.

Richard

Hello,

Please elaborate the issue.
Do you want to restore the files on disk?

Thanks,

Basically I have a tape with the backup job on.

I want to extract the Backup Exec backup file off the tape and save it to NAS folder. Then if I need to restore from that backup Job I can just catalog the folder.

Reason being this one tape has a load of info on it, I am remote from site and dont want to keep asking someone to put the tape in when I need to check something, as there may be no one there.

At present I ewant want to restore anything,

Regards

Richard

Create a B2D folder on the NAS.

Run a DUPLICATE job with the tape as the target and the B2D FOlder as the target

Hi,

I cant run a duplicate job as the server is dead and no longer exists to backup.

Hook the tape drive to another server or workstation

Install Backupexec

DUPLICATE the tape to the NAS box. You'll wind up with a bunch of .BKF files.

You won't be able to open and use them without special software (like BackupExec) but you will have the files on Disk

Hi,

If the server is dead and no duplicate backup can be run from the tape to B2D,either you have to install BE on another server with the same tape drive or it is not possible to take these actaul backup files off the tape.

Revert for any further Query

Thank you
