Ok, so here's my issue. I have a different backup running everyday onto different tapes with a media set for everyday. I'm running Win 2k3, BkupExec 9.1, and a powervault 132t. The majority of the time the backups run without any problem at all, but recently the jobs don't stop, meaning that when i come to work in the morning the job that normally finishes at 1:45 am is still running and actually hasn't transfered any info. All the jobs backup the same info from the same sources, but some nights it jams. Anyone see this before? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Lol, like the title ;)

Are there any alerts?

Can you post up a failed backup log?

Hi Simon,
I don't get any errors during the backup. It just says that it's running (one ran for 61 hours) but didn't transfer any information. And this morning, I get to work to find BackupExec frozen and now everytime i launch it, it tries to connect to the media server and hangs. So frustrating.....

i'm having a similar problem. left unattended, a job that stalls like this will run forever (despite the 23 hour time limit on the job). a job that stalls like this seems to resist being stopped, in fact, the only way i've found to stop these jobs is to terminate the job engine and restart all the services.

i happened to have debug logging enabled, here are the relevant entries of one of my stalled jobs:

CAPTAIN, btw, is the 4th server in this backup job. the 3 prior are backed up fine, and the 3 behind it never got touched.

this same job ran perfectly the friday before, collecting 4g in just under an hour, but it stalled monday after 2 gigs, some 81 hours into the job.

BE Server is Dell Poweredge 2850, with attached sony DDS4 11000

I stopped all services (even though it wouldn't let me in the services window, kept getting an error) soi had to kill the processes which i don't like doing, but now backupexec runs. All my backups worked great a week ago....what happened? Why does it just keep hanging and never even transfer a byte of info to the tape.

Colin-
i think you'll find that even after terminating the services and restarting, it will happen again.

i have applied SP4a in an attempt to correct this issue, but i'm not holding my breath.

side note: do not run the Service Pack from a network drive or UNC, it seems to hang the network redirector on server 2003 (and possibly others). copy to a local disk and run.

9.1 sp4a SEEMS to have corrected the issue. i've got 3 good backups in a row, which is more then i've had since this issue started, almost a month and a half ago.

SP4a did fix the issue, 11 days and counting.
