Linux Remote Agent

Mentioned to my vendor that I wanted to have a remote agent for our Backup Exec for Windows V10.0 Rev 5520 to install onto a RedHat Linux Enterprise ES (V4) and he sold me a Remote Agent (CAL) for Linux/unix Servers.

Have installed the agent onto the Linux system ok and its all running. (RALUS)
I can see the expandable tree in my Backup Exec.
However when trying to perfom a backup I keep hitting an error in as much that it says:
'Final error: 0xe000846b - The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent.
Make sure that the Remote Agent is installed on the target computer and is running.
Final error category: Resource Errors'

Can anyone confirm if the Backup Agent is supported under this flavour of Linux - if not, what can I do to doa backup?

I noticed another poster having a simialr issue whereby they said they thought it was to do with the FQDN showing in the tree hieracy, as mine is.
e.g. servername.local.domainname

Someone seemd to think that BEW cannot support a FQDN which exceeds 30 characters. If this is the case, again, any ideas what I can do.
Thanks in advance.
Chris

Hello,

As a preliminary step verify if Unix version which you are using is compatible Wth BE v10.0 rev 5520.

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264484.htm

If it is compatible, add the BE server name and ip address in the host file on the Unix server and vice versa.

Thanks Deepali.
As I suspected our version is not showing in either the Remote Agent for Linux and UNIX Servers (RALUS) Compatibility, or the Legacy Linux/UNIX/Mac Compatibility.

It only goes up to Enterprise Linux 3.0 - ES whereas we are on V4.

Are there any suggestions, plans for V4 to become integrated etc.
Thanks

Hello,

You can check the SCL for Backup Exec v10d and verify if RedHat Linux Enterprise ES (V4) is listed in it. If it is present then you can upgrade the version of Backup Exec to v10d. It is a free upgrade. After the upgrade, install RALUS and check the results.

- Symantec Backup Exec 10d (10.1) for Windows Servers - Software Compatibility List (SCL)
http://support.veritas.com/docs/278254

You can download the installation files of BE v10d from the below mentioned link:

- Symantec Backup Exec (tm) 10d rev. 5629 for Windows Servers Installation Files
http://support.veritas.com/docs/279332

For the upgrade procedure you can refer to the below mentioned link :

- Step by Step installation instructions for the upgrade to Backup Exec 10d from Backup Exec 10.0
http://support.veritas.com/docs/281044

Hope this helps you.

Regards
