Linux agent and sparse file

Hi,

I am running Veritas Backup Exec 9.00 Rev. 4454 on Windows 2000 Server SP4 and the latest Backup Exec agent (Revision 5.046) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 x86_64 ES.

The /var/log/lastlog file is a sparse file on Linux:
---
# du /var/log/lastlog
52 /var/log/lastlog
---

---
# ls -l /var/log/lastlog
-r-------- 1 root root 1254130450140 Mar 7 10:23 /var/log/lastlog
---

I noticed that Backup Exec tries to backup the whole file (1.2 TB) and the backup job never finishes.

Is there any way to have it handle correctly the sparse file?

Thanks.

Please refer to the Backup Exec Software Compatibility List and verify whether the Red Hat Linux Version is compatible with Backup Exec 9.0

"VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.0 for Windows Servers - Software Compatibility List "

Hi,

It looks like Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 x86_64 ES is not supported by Backup Exec 9.1.

Is there any plan to release an updated Backup Agent for it?

For now, I exclueded the sparse file from the backup list.

Thanks.
