Media inconsistency error

I am beginning to get 'There were inconsistencies in your backup media' errors on some of my backup jobs. I know this usually means that my tapes have gone bad, but is there a way to check them to see if they really are bad? Some kind of utility?

Sure:

Seek Errors: 0
Soft Read Errors: 0
Hard Read Errors: 0
Soft Write Errors: 1251
Hard Write Errors: 0

Hello,

- You could try running an erase Operation on the Tape a couple of times.
- Also try runnning the Clean Drive Operation.
- If the error still persists talk to your hardware manufacturer to check the life of the tape..
