Media is inconsistent error when trying to restore from Linux backup

Trying to restore data from a Linux box which has died and the information on the tapes is very important. When I initially ran the restore it completed till about 25% and failled with this error message:

Job ended: Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 2:40:31 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xa0008488 - Access is denied.

Final error category: Security Errors

With an Event ID of 34113


I tried to run the restore again and nothing happens. It sits for about 15 minutes and then fails with this message and nothing being restored:

Job ended: Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 2:54:15 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xa00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.

Final error category: Backup Media Errors

With and Event ID of 34113


I have cleaned this drive and tried to use others drives as well, please anyone help me as this is extremely important that these files are not lost.

Hi Joe!

Cause behind the first error could be that the user account specified in Backup Exec to back up/restore the resource does not have sufficient rights to back up/restore the resource.

Please verify that the user name has at least "Read" access to the resource being backed up/restored.
