Need some help to determine which product to use for backup.

Guys,

Trying to determine which Symantec product is the right product for us.

In our datacenter: we have Dell chassis with 7 x blades running Server 2012 Datacenter with Hyper-V.

EMC VNX5300 SAN that presents CSV storage to Hyper-V via ISCSI. Chassis also connects to a Juniper gig switch, this is how it connects to our network.

Main location: 8 physical servers including Exchange 2010, CRM, ERP, File server. These servers backup to staging disk space on the backup server then transfer to LTO5. Physical servers will be converted to Hyper-V and moved to the datacenter within a couple of months.

We currently use ArcServe 16.5 to backup RAW VHD directly to LTO6 Tapes using the Dell TL2000 appliance at the data center and to Dell TL2000 LTO5 at the main site.

We'd like to backup all of our Hyper-V VMs to LTO6, as well as the physical machines to LTO5.  Our LTO5 appliance in the main site will also be upgraded to LTO6 and we would like to have some form of backup replication between the main site and the data center.

Any suggestions on which product is the right one for us based on Hyper-V, Server 2012, CSV, replication etc.

Cost is definetely a factor, any help is greatly appreciated.

If you have a lot of VM's, you might want to look at the V-Ray edition of BE.

It is difficult for us to advice you on what is good for your environment because of insufficient knowledge/information.  You might want to contact a Symantec reseller to come in to take a look.

Is Windows 2012 today even supported by BackupExec?

I made a number of calls to Sales. BE does not support Server 2012 or the VRAY for now.

Sales estimate that it may become supported within the next couple of months.

Let`s say it was supported now. What would be the recommended backup setup?

This is how everything is connected now.

7 x Hyper-V hosts that connect to CSV (EMC VNX 5300) via ISCSI

Hyper-V hosts also connect to the LAN

Backup Server is connected to the LAN as well as it is connected to the TAPE appliance Dell TL2000 via ISCSI
