New Job Setup assigning slots for exchange back-ups.

I would like to back up my exchange folders (i.e. mailboxes and public folders) every night. Currently, there is a job setup, but I would like to change it.

My device is a 7 Slot DLT Robotic Library. So, I would like use each slot for each day of the week.

Slot 1 = Monday
Slot 2 = Tuesday
....
Slot 7 = Sunday

The way I figure I must do this is to setup a separate job for each day. But, that would also mean I would have to create a new media set for each day that would only have one tape that would allow me to append? So each tape would get written to only once in a week.

So after one week it will start over and go back to the first slot/tape of the week and append to the previous week day.

Am I correct in this setup or is there an easier way so I do not have to create 7 jobs and 7 media sets?

Also, what would I set my overwrite and append period to? If I start Monday would I say do not overwrite for 6 days?

Thank you for you input.

Hello Mark,

The overwrite period of a media starts at the end of each job run, not the beginning. To explain it in a better manner, refer to the following technotes which will guide you as to how you can configure media sets as per your requirement.

Title:An explanation of the "Overwrite Protection Period" and the "Append Period"
http://support.veritas.com/docs/237374

Title: The basics of Advanced Device and Media Management for VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers

In addition to the above, the following Technote can help you with regards to creating partitons:

Title:Creating, configuring, and targeting a backup job to a Robotic Library partition in Backup Exec 9.x and 10.0 for Windows Servers

You could do this with one media set and one job, fun each night, and let let OPP protect the tapes, but to guarantee that Monday only writes to Slot 1, you should set up partitions. This will require a different job for each night, pointed at the appropriate partition
