Old Tape Restores

Donna_Bagby

We are restoring tapes to a disk storage unit which is taking a lot of time on the inventory, catalog, restore process. Is there a faster way to restore a tape without having to 1. inventory, 2. catalog, and 3. restore. I did not think so but I am verifying for IT manager.

Thanks.

if the tape volume does not already exist in the catalog, then yes, yo umust inventory the tape, then catalog it, then do the restore

And yes, cataloging a high capacity tape can tape a LOOOOOONG time

You can somewhat shorten the catalog process (in theory) by selecting "Use Media Based Catalogs", but there have been complaints here in the forum that this has absolutely no effect on catalog time

Hello,

Mr Putnam has rightly explained. You can select "use storage media based catalogs" and check the results.
