One time backup, how to

Hi,

We have an Exabyte backup machine (1x7 loader), at the moment all seven media seem to be involved in a daily differential backup. I need to backup some other files off that server. Will it be okay to replace one media for the purpose of that one time backup and then return the original set? Will Backup Exec recognize the new media as they one I want to use for that one time backup? If not, any suggestions on how to do that backup?

Should be no problem

Just remember that every time you change tapes in the loader you need to inventory the new ones, so that BackupExec knows what volumes are mounted

Hi,

As it turns out, putting an empty cartridge in a slot (this case number 7) does not make that cartridge the one that is chosen for backup, the system selected the cartridge in slot 4. It seems to me that one needs to create a new media set, but even there you can not specify which cartridge to use. Any ideas on how the specify a particular cartridge to backup to? Take the other cartridges offline?
