Powervault 124T and LTO5-140 SAS

Hi,

I'm looking to using Backup Exec 2012 at a customer with the following setup:
Tape libary: Powervault 124T
Tape drive: LTO5-140 SAS

I've found entries in the HCL from Symantec found at:
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH1755823

But the combination of this drive and library is not listed.

On DELLs site it says supported for Symantec Backup Exec for both the Tape library as the Drive.

Is this combination fully supported for Backup Exec 2012?

Hi,

I just checked the HCL, and on pg. 77 and about 6 entries down you will see it...check it out.

Thanks!

Weird, it is on page 81 for me.  Looks like there is a sligh bit of confusion about the marketing name of hte tape drive, but I am sure it is the same.

I'm sorry but a Quantum LTO-5 FH SAS drive is not the same as a Dell LTO5-140 SAS drive

Here's the tape drive you both specified Larry:

http://shopper.cnet.com/tape/quantum-lto-5-fh/4014-3204_9-34077295.html.

This is the one i was looking for in the HCL in combination with the tape library:
http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/powervault-lto5-140/pd?refid=powervault-lto5-140&baynote_bnrank=1&...

I need to be 100% sure this is a fully supported combination, and protocols like NDMP work...

Quantum makes a lot of generic drives for manufacturers...check that HCL and you will see. If you feel otherwise, then it's best to log a support call with Symantec who will advise otherwise. Just post back with an update and close this forum query off if possible. Thanks!

I do believe that link is to an IBM drive, not a Quantum drive, as Dell only sells one LTO5 drive stand-alone.

I believe it is this drive on the BE HCL, from the stand-alone drive section:

PowerVault LTO5-140 [3] [5] IBM^^^^^ULTRIUM-HH5 SAS LTO

------

Dell advertises a "PowerVault 124T LTO5", which I believe is this line from the BE HCL:

PowerVault 124T SAS Quantum LTO-5 FH SAS DELL^^^^PV-124T QUANTUM^ULTRIUM^5

which seems to be this link http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/powervault-124t-lto5/pd?oc=bvcw6k5&model_id=powervault-124t-lto5 which Dell states is supported with BE.

Do the inquiry strings of the customer's equipment match the HCL?  I assume they do.

Bottom line, it looks to be supported.
