Hi

How to prevent BE(10d, win 2000) from ejecting the media when an error occurs?

Thank you

Hello,

Are you getting any errors?

What is the overwrite protection and append period?

Deselcet the option "eject media after the backup job completes" if selected.

Yes I did get the following error:

Verify- E: dataStorage device "HP 1" reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported:
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
This could be caused by either a dirty tape drive, bad media, or a SCSI problem.
V-79-57344-33991 - The media is bad.

Overwrite protection is set to 1 hour & append infinity

"eject media after the backup job completes" is already deselected.

I know that the above error is pertaining to verification. However sometimes when a media error occurs, I would like to format the media & restart the job. My problem is that I access the media server remotely. If BE ejects the tape due to an error, I am unable to format the tape & re-run the backup job.

Hello,

A CRC Error is normally a Hardware Issue. You can however try and follow following Articles:

"Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" (00000017 HEX) is reported in the Backup Exec job log during a failed backup/verify operation

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/192216.htm

"Data error (cyclic redundancy check)", (00000017 HEX) error occurs in a Backup Exec job.

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/266180.htm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also follow following Steps:

- Stop and Disable the Removable Storage Service.

- Install the latest Drivers for the SCSI adapter that you changed recently.

- Try a Backup job with Verification Option enabled on a Backup to Disk Folder.
Let us know what happens.
