I had BE 9.1 on NT4 Server SP6a working fine but decided to both download and install the following updates in order during the afternoon of October 24th:
BE4691RSP4a_20008.exe - Backup Exec 9.1.4691 Service Pack 4a
BE4691RHF56_282260.EXE - 9.1.4691 Hotfix 56 - Backup Exec for Windows Servers March 2006 Security Vulnerabilities *Requires Backup Exec 9.1.4691 Service Pack 4a - 03/31/2006
BE4691RHF58_284432.EXE - 9.1.4691 Hotfix 58 - Backup Exec for Windows Servers July 2006 Security Vulnerabilities *Requires Backup Exec 9.1.4691 Service Pack 4a - 08/11/2006
I rebooted after each one. After installing the last one (Hotfix 58) and rebooting, the log-on screen says:
beserver.exe - Entry Point Not Found
"The procedure entry point RpcServerRegisterIf2 could not be located in the dynamic link library RPCRT4.dll."
RPCRT4.dll has a file version of 4.00
Since I cannot uninstall Hotfix 58, I installed it again, rebooted, but the error message displayed again.
I also downloaded Hotfix 58 again and installed it, rebooted, but the error message has displayed again.
It appears that Hotfix 58 is using RpcServerRegisterIf2 even though the following MSDN pages indicate RpcServerRegisterIf2 is not for Windows NT and only RpcServerRegisterIf will work:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/rpc/rpc/rpcserverregisterif2.asp
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/rpc/rpc/rpcserverregisterif.asp
But then why would Symantec list Hotfix 58 as an available download for the "Windows NT" platform dated 8/11/2006 if they haven't installed it on Windows NT? Didn't they test the Hotfix on the NT platform?
Any suggestions how to fix the Hotfix?
Do I need to provide more information?
