Question about the Remote Media Agent for Linux

Does the Remote Media Agent for Linux completely take over the attached storage? Or will it worth with any existing usage of the device?

In other words, we have Red Hat on a Dell server with an MD1200 attached, which we use for various tasks and the MD1200 has some space already used as storage for some of those tasks. If I install the RMAL service, will it try to completely take over handling the MD1200, or will it "know about" what space is already being used and leave it alone?

I suppose the RMAL agent will take complete control of the Library connected to that Linux server.

Thanks,
