RALUS BACKUP FAILS

My backup fails with the following error

Error category : Resource ErrorsError : e000846b - The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent.
Make sure that the Remote Agent is installed on the target computer and is running.

Redhat ES 4 update 4
RALUS Installed and browseable from the be 10d server, BE10D SP1 and SP2 installed, same error.

Also ensure the following:

The RALUS license is installed on the Backup Exec server

The logon account has root level access rights on the Linux system and is member of "Beoper" group

Check if any other application is using port 10000 run the command netstat -a on the Linux machine. Port 10000 is used by RALUS for NDMP communication between media server and Unix/Linux machine.

The license is installed, i am connecting with the root account, and the root account is in the beoper group. The server IS browseable from the windows 2003 SP1 10d server.

And the only thing running on port 10000 is beremote.

I have contacted symantec enterprise support, the problem was that the agent was using the fully qualified domain name instead of the short hostname, there is a limit in symatec backup exec 10.x of 30 charecters on the hostname. The FQDN exceeded this limitation causing backups to fail.
