Recovered files are corrupted (using software compression)

Hi,

I 've backed up some data on my DLT streamer, with compression.
I've recovered files from tape (DLT 40GB) and noticed that some of files are corrupted:

- mostly doc and xls files are corrupted, but not every one,
- these corrupted files are smaller and looks like compressed,
- corrupted files have correct names
- pdf and jpg and txt files are OK, executable files also seems to be OK

I tried to recover data on two different streamers (the same type). I tried to recover it from tapes that were hardware compressed as well as software compressed in other case on another day.

I use BE 9.1 on windows machine, files are backed up from Netware 4 and 5 servers.

I tried to backup and recover files without compression and that seems to be OK.
When I back and recover with compression on backup folder on local hard disk (which is my alternative location for storing backup files) the problem do not occur.

Please, help, how to restore my files from compressed tapes so that they were readable? What is the problem in general? how to avoid such problems?

Data was backing up without veryfication.

regards,
Tomasz Czajka

That was something i needed!

You solved my problem, thank you very much!

The problem was that I restored files from netware volumes to windows hard drive.
After restoring it to original location on Netware server all the files are OK!
