Remote Agent Install

We're having trouble isntalling the Remote Agent onto ne particular server, all others servers (4 of them) installed successfully, the last server fails to instal the Remote Agent - we tried installing it locally following the instruction on the KB article but it still fails - the BackupExec service jst hangs at 'starting' and we can't do anything else other than mnaually remove the registry settings and use process explorer to stop beremote.exe - the service reports beremote in the Veritas\Backup Exec\Rant folder but that folders just full of 20Mb of temp files - anyone have a fix / worksaround for this as its driving us nuts

Thank you for the post. In this case we would suggest you to remove the temp files in the RANT folder. It is a better practice for such problems to uninstall the remote agent completely and then try performing a local installation of RAWS again.

Hello there, the Remote agent service hangs on starting and it won't let us delete anything within the RANT32 folder unti lthe server process is halted (we used Process Explorer as Task Manager couldn't end it) - I've followed the instructions for manual removal and rebooted the server but we still have the same issue, the Remote (push) install gets up to 96% then falls back to 36%, then reports the failure. The service and registry settings are installed but the service just hangs.

I am going to try the remote install from a different media server, once we have removed the remote agent manually. We've also tried instlling locally on the target server and although the coomand line setupaa and setupaofo complete the service just hangs at the same sstage mentioned above

Hi,

Manual removal of the Remote Agent files would be a good idea. Please update the remote computer with MDAC 2.8 from the Microsoft site. You can find it under Downloads. Ensure that the System account has Full Control rights on all the root Registry hives:

HKEY_local_machine, HKEY_Software, HKEY_Classes_Root, HKEY_current_user etc. Reinstall the Remote Agent locally, reboot the server and verify the results.
