Remote Agent Usage

Hello,

At my company we have a Windows 2000 Domain, and we run Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 v3878

My question is this: -

Are the remote agents only for use with Servers?

We backup over the network for a number of Servers AND Client PC's (Windows 2000 and XP Pro). When a Windows 2000 Pro client has a backup run, and there is no agent the backup job fails, despite correctly backing up all information.

On a Windows XP Client, the backup job completes with an error "Unable to initialise agent" - BUT DOES NOT fail the whole job.

This comes down to licensing - can Remote Agents be installed on any number of Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional CLIENTS?

OR must an Agent be purchased for every Client that has an agent running?

Thanks

To get a disaster recovery type backup, you do indeed need the agent to get the registry/system state

But the good news is, you do not need to purchase the agent for Desktop OSes. Just install it on the workstations you need to backup
