Remote agents stops on all systems

For the past 2 days the BE remote agents on all of our backup targets stops unexpectedly at about the same time. This includes some 23 Windows servers and 2 Linux servers. Strangely enough there is one exception, our Exchange server. Of course we have to restart the services to run backup jobs. What the heck is going on here?

We have had this occur for all our remote agents (windows 2000 servers and windows 2003. I see this same query on the 9.0 and 9.1 forums.

Clearly something is going on that just started the last few days. A DOS attack on remote agents? Hopefully veritas will supply some answers

Hello,

Verify if you get the following error in the Drwatson log:
Application exception occurred:
App: (pid=2616*)
When: 6/29/2005 @ 09:33:26.241
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

*2616 beremote.exe

FAULT at function: DeasciifyAndDecrypt

If yes, then the problem possible occurs as a result of the vulnerabilities detected in Backup Exec. In order to protect your system of these vulnerabilities, you need to perfom the folowing steps:

1. Upgrade to Backup Exec version 9.1 which is a free upgrade from 9.0. The following technotes will help in this regard:

Title: VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers revision 4691.1 (Single .ZIP download)
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264658.htm

Title: VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers General Information
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262414.htm

Note: 1. BEWS 9.1 is a free downloadable upgrade inclusive of previously installed agents and options from Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Servers agents and options.

2. Update all agents/options on all remote systems.

3. Install the following hotfix:

9.1 4691 Hotfix 52 - Backup Exec for Windows Servers May 2005 Security Rollup *Requires Backup Exec 9.1 4691 Service Pack 2

Hope this helps resolve the problem. In case the problem persists or if you need more information on this issue, do write back to the forum with details.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem as of Monday. So why all of a sudden have the remote agents decided to fail? I'm running 9.0 4454, SP1, Hotfix 2
