I have now sorted the 1st issue by stopping all BackupExec services and deleting the BeTopCat.idx file and all *.TMP, *.SM, *.FDD and *.QTC files in the BacupExec\NT\CATALOGS folder.
(I'm afraid the links you posted did not work for me - they come up as old links?)
Regarding the 2nd issue, the only recognition that I have made a restore request is an entry in the Job Definitions Tab.
And the sending request box appears and then disappears straight away after I've clicked 'run now'.
No Alerts, reports or even a request for the correct tape ?
