SCSI Controller Timeout

I've installed Veritas Backup Exec on a server running
Windows 2000 Server, the thing is that backups are taking so long and its stops responding where the Byte Count stops and the backup status refers to 'Running', An error in the System event that says 'SCSI Controller Timeout'.

The backups are local and I'm using Lotus Notes Agent.
Can anyone please advise.
