Scheduling question

I have a customer who would like to run backups on two media sets, switching tapes every Monday morning. A full backup would be performed each night.

I created two backup jobs, one for one media set (let's call it "Tape 1") and another for "Tape 2". I want the tape 1 job to run each night, M-F of next week. The following Monday, the customer would change tapes, and have tape 2's job run that week. Wash, rinse, repeat.

How do I schedule a backup job to run M-F, and alternate weeks at the same time?

Any particular reason that you want two different jobs? As long as they grab the same data, you could get rid of the second job.

Set your (single) media set for append 5 days, overwrite 13 days, and just have them swap tapes every Monday morning.

The jobs are identical, except for the schedules. However, each job requires more than one tape to hold all the data.

Hi,

We understand that you want to use the Tape media for alternate weeks from Monday to Friday.Kindly update if our understanding is incorrect.

You can define a specific media set properties such that the tape media can be overwrite protected from backups for certain period.

For example, you want tape 1 (media set 1) to be used for alternate weeks then you can set the media set properties as;

Append period = 5 days (for writing from monday to Friday)
Overwrite protection period=9 days

After appending last on Friday you would require the tape media to be protected from overwritten till Monday of next alternate week.(That is 9 days)
