We have a Sharepoint 2003 portal running on a Win 2003 server box. After purchasing the Sharepoint portal agent we are still not able to select the Sharepoint within Backup Exec to perform the backups.

We are not able to see the Sharepoint resources at all through Backup Exec. There are not any errors since it does not show Sharepoint at all.
The server is up to date with all patches.
Thanks,
Barry

Hello,

In order to backup Sharepoint 2003 using Backup Exec 9.1,you need to purchase the Backup Exec for Windows servers Microsoft agent for SQL server. Refer to the BE 9.1 Software compatibility list point No. 12 for more information on the same:

Title: VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers - Software Compatibility List (SCL)
http://support.veritas.com/docs/261695

Also refer to the following white paper:

We have the SQL agent purchased and installed. We also purchased the Sharepoint Agent. How is the Sharepoint agent used to do the backups? Where is the documentation?

ANy Help? We have the SQL Client and the Sharepoint Client. If the sharpoint client isn't used to backup Sharepoint then what does Symantec sell it for? Can we get our money back if we don't need it?

This moderated forum is very frustrating. Customer NO SERVICE!

Hello,

We apologize for the delay in response.
As mentioned in the previous reply you can only backup the databases using the SQL agent in Backup Exec 9.1. Sharepoint agent is only for Backup Exec 10.0.

As you have mentioned that you cannot even see the database, please refer the following technote.
Title:
How to enable support for "Restrict Anonymous" when using Backup Exec 8.6, 9.x, and 10.0 for Windows Servers
http://support.veritas.com/docs/238618

You need to enable this on the media server as well as the remote server.

Hello,

Please note that Sharepoint agent is required to backup the Sharepoint Portal 2001.

To backup Sharepoint Portal 2003 it is necessary to install the SQL agent as we have mentioned in our earlier mail.

Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers support for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 requires the purchase of the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Agent for Microsoft SQL Server.

Backup and restore procedures are outlined in a VERITAS white paper located at http://eval.veritas.com/downloads/pro/backup_exec/bews_91_sps_2003_wp.pdf
VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers - Software Compatibility List http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/261695.htm

It is is supported in BE v10.0 and does not need to purchase additional sql agent..

We hope this will clarify your doubt.
